I can’t afford to do business in New York City anymore…?
Question by Chris L: I can’t afford to do business in New York City anymore…?
I run a small mail order business and I live in New York City. I can’t afford to do business there anymore. Cash flow is not consistent, and between personal taxes and the “unincorporated business tax,” I cannot continue like this. I am always owing taxes and am tired of being harassed by state tax authorities for what are absurd amount of taxes. They like to suck you dry until your business goes out of business. How do I overcome this? I don‘t want to leave New York City, but can I register an s-corporation in Florida, for example, and still run the business out of New York City? I do not want to break any laws, so any legal strategies would be most helpful.
